Recently I had a chance to visit the famous Brindavan Garden near Mysore, Karnataka. This was my second visit after I shifted to Bangalore from Mumbai.
How was the experience ? My rating would be Good (2/5).
It could have been "great" if little things were in place.
Okay , let us first check the history of the garden . The garden is more than 80 years old and it took 5 years (1927-32) to get completed and is adjacent to the Krinarajasagar dam.
The maintenance of the Garden is done by the "Cauvery Niravari Nigama" , a Govt. of Karnataka enterprise.
I read somewhere that close to 2 millions tourist visits the Garden each year and definitely it generates good amount of revenue. The main attraction here is the musical fountains at night.
What is the most interesting thing about the Garden?
In my opinion , the beautiful garden was built to say thank you to river goddess "Cauvery". River Cauvery is no doubt life-line of South India and Karnataka in particular. The beautiful garden symbolizes how a river makes our life beautiful, relaxing and refreshing.

It also has open message "river is life" .
what the authorities could have done to improve the travel experience:-
1. Manage the parking area : Huge parking area is available but it is so haphazard that it will take you an hour or sometimes even more to come out. The roads are literally chocked and chaotic at night and weekends.
2. Flora and Fauna : The flora and fauna is not at all maintained. you don't see a lot of variety.
3. Eateries and Hawker : The eateries are scattered randomly near the entrance of the garden with no sitting arrangements. Hundreds of hawkers inside the garden selling chips, water bottle, cool drinks etc encouraging the crowd to litter all around the garden.
Best would be make open air restaurant or eateries inside the garden in a particular area while in the rest of the areas food, plastics and hawkers should be strictly prohibited.
4. Water Fountain : The musical fountain is the major attraction here but it has only limited seats. Proper exit and entry should be made to the open air amphitheater. Make proper lighting arrangement along the passage at night time .
5. Security Personal/Guards to assist the tourist : there are quite a few security guards inside the garden but non will assist you, they check your tickets, camera tickets. Instead its better they guide the lost tourist inside the garden.
6. Ticketing system : Everywhere in India the ticketing system is so pathetic. why don't use a smarter and much simpler ticketing system like Metro stations.
Even with the above shortcomings..you must have Brindavan Garden in your itinerary list if visiting Mysore or Srirangapatam.... I am leaving you with some pictures:-
